Intended audience

System and Business Analysts, Product Owners, Product Manager, System Architects

Prereqs & Preparation

  • Experience in working with requirements on a project (software development, process analysis)
  • Experience/knowledge of visual notation languages (e.g. UML 2.0) to describe domain entities, usage scenarios and business processes
  • Experience in system design / architecture
  • Understanding of specifics of work in iterative projects

All materials related to the workshop will be provided on-site.

Abstract

This one day pre-conference workshop offers participants an opportunity to walk through the process of system design using RUP-based approach starting from investigation of the business domain and its key objects to identification of main usage scenarios. The workshop will be split into 4 parts:

  • Domain analysis
  • System usage scenarios and prototyping
  • System modeling and design
  • Application user testing

The workshop will be facilitated by professional BA/SA and UX trainers. Participants will be split into groups of 2-4 to work on a real case provided by the facilitators.

The first part of the workshop will focus more on the Business Analysis activities including domain modeling, problem statement definition and stakeholder analysis together with definition of key business processes. The second part of the workshop intends to help analysts start defining the solution that addresses an underlying business problem. This will be achieved through usage scenario analysis and definition through use cases and visual prototyping (paper-based or via a simple wireframing tool).

The third part of the workshop strives to stimulate a greater level of interaction between the analyst and the system designer at the system modeling stage.

Finally, the last part of the workshop will intend at helping participants acquire understanding of user testing practices and means of carrying out such activities.

About RUP

Rational Unified Process (RUP) is a software development process designed by Rational Software – a division of IBM now, –  and is suitable for projects of different sizes.

Outcomes of the workshop

As a result of the workshop, the participants will not only improve their hard skills but also experience the practical value of collaboration and importance of communication with the team on all stages of a software development project.

About the Facilitators

Mikhail Kumskov is a Lead Expert on System Analysis and Business Systems at Luxoft, Expert on requirement management, RUP-methods and IBM Rational (System analysis) with over 30 years of experience in IT

Yuriy Mykhasyak is a UX Designer at ELEKS with experience in working on web-based and mobile enterprise projects.

How to register

A form will be provided for everyone willing to attend the workshop. Candidates will be asked to provide information regarding their current experience and expertise together with their motivation to participate in the workshop. Up to 20 candidates will be accepted. There will be a limit on number of analysts and engineers to ensure different facets of software development projects are covered

Venue

The workshop will be conducted on premises of Eleks Training Center (Lviv, Naukova 7g) prior to IT Arena Lviv conference.
