Design Thinking Workshop

Title

Design Thinking in Software Development Projects

Intended audience

Everyone involved into day-to-day work with customer projects including Product managers, UX/UI Designers, Business Analysts, Engagement and Sales, Software architects. This workshop will be of value for everyone interested in adopting the principles of human-centered design where people and their needs are always put first when defining a solution.

Prerequisites & Preparation

No prerequisites or past experience in design thinking are required from workshop participants. Experience in executing software development projects is recommended. All materials needed for participation will be provided onsite. Anticipated duration of workshop is up to 8 hours

Abstract

This one day pre-conference workshop offers participants to immerse into the Design Thinking approach.

Participants will work in small teams and learn about Design Thinking tools and techniques while practicing it hands-on along a real life challenge. They will be guided by two experienced Design Thinking facilitators, who will also share best practices from their projects.

A booklet with reference materials will be provided.

Outcomes of the workshop

As a result of the workshop, attendees will gain an understanding of human-centered design principles, learn techniques to improve ideation and discover how to share compelling stories through design. This knowledge will be applicable in early phases of software development as well as throughout the project lifecycle

About the Facilitators

Matthias Langholz is a Strategic Design Consultant at the SAP Design & Co-Innovation Center focusing on Interaction and Service Design. He has more than 10 years of experience in designing digital products and has worked and lived in many countries across Europe.

Based on his experiences from various customer engagements he is convinced that product and service innovation seldom appears by accident but can be strategically achieved by applying user-centered design and design thinking.

Matthias holds a M.Sc. degree in Interaction Design from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden and a Diploma in Digital Media from University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Heike van Geel Heike works as a Design Strategist at the SAP Design & Co-Innovation Center, a team that supports customer and strategic design projects through co-innovation and Design Thinking. In particular Heike works with her customers in the initial and exploratory stage of a project by helping them first identify the right challenge to solve, discover needs and insights around that before generating ideas and designs. With more than 15 years of SAP experience, she is considered a veteran of Design Thinking at SAP.

Heike is passionate about participatory design sessions, she created and facilitated those in many different locations around the globe.

How to register

Candidates will be asked to provide information regarding their current experience and expertise together with their motivation to participate in the workshop.

Venue

The workshop will be conducted on premises of Eleks Training Center (Lviv, Naukova 7g) prior to IT Arena Lviv conference on October 1.
